Web Site Active for Fall 2015: The course website is almost ready for use for Fall
Term 2015. I reserve the right to
update the lecture slides just before presenting the material in class. Any corrections or changes to course
material will be noted on this page – including tips for specific problems. Potential
Projects for 2015-2016: The projects approved for IE Senior Design Credits are
listed and linked on the Materials Page.
In some circumstances, projects listed under “Other Campus Projects”
may be adjusted to meet IE documentation and project planning/control
requirements – however, these adjustments will require significant grading
agreement by ALL departments participating.
See the instructor ASAP if considering these projects – do not assume
that you will be able to get IE Senior Design credit for “Other Campus
Projects”. Class Time/Day & Location
for IENG 464/465: This course is NOT held on the SDSM&T main
campus. This class meets in the Active
Learning Classroom (IER 205) on the second floor of the downtown campus. The building is located at 520 Kansas City Street. Note that after the second week, some teams will meet on
Tuesdays from 11:00 AM – 11:50 AM.
This will primarily affect only half of the Senior Design teams, and only
then when a Project Status Meeting or Project Management Meeting is
scheduled. The teams that will meet on
Tuesdays will be determined at the class when project teams are finalized. Parking at
the Industrial Engineering & Research Building: BEWARE THE CHANGES! If you have an SDSM&T parking sticker of ANY type,
you may park in the spots marked SMD in the lot on the East side of the
building (mostly the East row of the middle).
Alternatively, you may also park in the metered spots along Kansas
City street, etc. DO NOT PARK IN THE
EITHER THE NON-SMD SPOTS OR THE GRAVEL LOT – you will likely be towed at your
own expense by the firms that rent those other spots. If you get towed, it will probably be
without warning. |

Schedule Change For 23 OCT: By another miracle of scheduling, this year’s career
FIE Conference happens to conflict with Senior Design. The original topics for 23 OCT have been
moved to Thursday,
30 OCT at the regular class meeting time. NOTE: The 30 OCT class is one of those where all IE Senior Design students
are required to attend. |

New Due Date for Project
Proposals: By a miracle of scheduling, this year’s career fair
happens to conflict more with academics than with athletics. The due date for the team’s Project
Proposal has been moved to Monday,
22 SEP at 5:00 PM. |

Rough Cut Project
Interests/Teams for Fall 2014: Dr. Jensen needs a rough cut plan for the senior design
teams by 5:00 PM today! E-mail will
work for this – let me know your preferred project and team members. BTW – This does NOT mean that this is the final team
selection. ME students also have this
5:00 PM deadline, and some teams will not get enough interest, while others
may have too many people. While the ME
students will get assigned to a team, we will use this to decide if a team is
viable – and if not, you will get to choose again. |

External to the IE EM Program: Please be advised that there are several
multi-disciplinary projects being proposed that will request an IE EM
student(s) for their team. Some of these
project descriptions will be available near the start of next week, and some
projects may not meet the IE EM criteria for senior design. If you would like to work on one of these
projects, please inform the IE EM course instructor, who will work with the
IE EM faculty to assess the project for IE EM senior design credit. Please note, too, that you do NOT have to
be enrolled/get senior design credit to join and work on some projects (ie. CAMP projects) |
